Complex modelling
Models using large datasets, clear assumptions and checks on what changes the result.
About
Squillions Ltd is based near Te Awamutu and works with clients across New Zealand. The business is led by Nigel Pinkerton and combines economics, statistics, geographic analysis, data science and practical reporting.
Squillions helps clients assemble the right sources, test important assumptions, build the calculations or tool, and explain what the results mean.
The work usually sits between analysis and decision-making. Clients come to Squillions when the question is technical but the answer needs to be clear.
Common work includes economic assessment, official-data analysis, forecasting, scenario testing, policy evidence, data tools and model checking.
The work often brings together public datasets, client information, geographic evidence, modelling assumptions and report-ready tables. Squillions keeps those pieces separate so the reader can see what is observed, what is assumed, and what judgement has been applied.
Squillions is a small, senior-led practice. Nigel leads the work directly. For projects that need other expertise, Squillions works with the right specialist while keeping the data, economics and reporting logic clear.
About Nigel
Consultant in data, economics, modelling and policy analysis.
Nigel has more than fifteen years’ experience working with public-sector, not-for-profit and private-sector clients.
His early work included WEL Networks in Hamilton while completing his Bachelor of Management Studies with first-class honours in Economics at the University of Waikato. After graduating, he began his economics career at Statistics New Zealand, then moved into private-sector economic advice.
At Infometrics in Wellington, Nigel was a director and technical lead. He developed council economic monitoring systems in New Zealand.
Through Squillions, Nigel works on large datasets, official data, forecasting, scenario testing, public-sector reporting and data tools for decision-makers. His work draws on economics, statistics, geographic analysis and programming, depending on the problem.
Nigel is also a co-founder, CTO and founding director of Hello Cashflow, and provides technical, modelling and advisory services to the company. Hello Cashflow applies the same practical discipline to small-business financial data, with clear models and plain-English explanations for business owners. In 2026, Hello Cashflow was part of Creative HQ's Fintech Lab 2026 cohort and was recognised as Judges Choice at the Kiwibank Start Up Pitch Breakfast during FinTechNZ Hui Taumata.
Previous work includes local-government forecasting, public-sector data needs, regional strategy, economic impact frameworks, data quality review and statistical model review.
The aim is to show what is known, what is uncertain, what changes the answer, and what decision-makers can safely rely on.
